Microphone and speaker check

A spoken conversation with ALFI needs a working microphone and sound. Run both checks below. If either fails you can still type — the answers are the same.

1. Microphone

Not tested yet. Choose Test my microphone, then say a few words.

2. Speakers or headphones

Not tested yet. Choose Play test sound — you should hear a short tone.

  • Hardware

    • A microphone — built into your laptop, phone or a headset.
    • Speakers or headphones. A headset avoids echo.
    • No camera needed: the assistant never sees you.
    • On a phone or tablet, come off silent mode and raise the volume.

  • Software

    • An up-to-date Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox — nothing to install.
    • Choose Allow when the browser asks for the microphone.
    • Blocked before? Reset it from the padlock in the address bar, then reload.
    • Close other apps holding the microphone, such as a video call.

  • Privacy and alternatives

    • Your microphone is only live while a conversation is running.
    • Typed chat gives the same answers with no audio at all.
    • Captions are on by default and every clip has a transcript.
    • A written summary sits beside the avatar for reading instead.
