How TRAC teaches French — Key Stage 3 rules

Years 7, 8 and 9, Department for Education national curriculum, taught towards the grades 5 to 9 standards used at GCSE.

• Key Stage 3 only — Years 7, 8 and 9, aligned to the Department for Education national curriculum programmes of study.
• Practice questions, tests and model answers are pitched at the grade 5 to 9 standards used at GCSE, so strong habits start in Year 7.
• Key Stage 3 is not a graded qualification: grade descriptions show what strong work looks like, they are not predicted grades.
• Command words are taught explicitly (describe, explain, compare, evaluate) before any model answer is revealed.
• Your own attempt comes first: TRAC coaches, compares against the criteria and gives clear next steps.
• Assessed or homework tasks are never written for you — TRAC helps you plan, practise and improve your own work.
• Grades are never guaranteed and no exam board endorses these materials; they are educational support.
• Revision plans include rest, sleep and a prompt to involve a teacher or parent/carer when pressure is high.

What the grades mean

Grade 5

Secure standard — accurate knowledge, clear method, some development.

Grade 6

Strong knowledge with developed explanation and mostly accurate technical detail.

Grade 7

Consistently well-developed reasoning, precise terminology and controlled structure.

Grade 8

Sustained analysis or fully justified method, with evaluation where the question asks for it.

Grade 9

Exceptional: concise, fully justified and evaluative throughout with no loose ends.
